Installation:
The Transflex 04 is a transponder antenna that is supplied without a counterweight (unlike the Transflex 02 or Transflex 03 models). However, a counterweight is absolutely necessary and must be provided on the aircraft. With a metal fuselage, this can be achieved by establishing good contact between the fuselage and the copper antenna base. In other cases, a counterweight made of a highly conductive metal plate must be installed, whereby good contact between the antenna base and the metal plate must also be ensured. Please note: A simple measurement with a multimeter does not provide any indication of whether the connection is really good; a reading of 0 ohms is not very meaningful.
The diameter of the counterweight must be at least 15 cm; more is fine, but less is not.
In any case, after installation, proper functioning must be verified with a suitable measuring device. A simple test flight is not sufficient, as radar controllers cannot assess the quality and strength of the signal and therefore cannot draw any conclusions about the visibility of the aircraft under other conditions.
